Career outlook

Outlook data can help you ask better questions, but national projections are not a promise about a specific job, place, or person's future.

Start with BLS

The Occupational Outlook Handbook describes typical duties, preparation, pay, and projected employment at a national level.

Check O*NET

O*NET provides detailed occupation information, skills, activities, and work context.

Look locally

Ask local employers, workforce agencies, and schools about current opportunities and requirements near you.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this national data or local information?
  • How current is the source?
  • What credentials do employers near me ask for?
  • What working conditions matter to me?
